Going off the Grid with Solar Energy
In North America we spend a ridiculous amount of our incomes on electricity. The effort that it takes to transfer energy from the power plants to our homes is a waste of our hard earned money, money that can be spent on things to better your way of living. There are so many hidden costs that the average consumer doesn’t even know about but with a little information you can keep your money in your wallet where it belongs. Why throw money away and have someone else generate your power for you when you can easily do it yourself at a fraction of the price.
There are so many different ways that we can improve our lives and the planet that we live in. Why not start with a few simple moves that you can make in your daily life that can greatly benefit your wallet and our planet in one step? First off there are no more excuses when it comes to appliances because with the growing number of energy efficient appliances out there this should be one upgrade that can done with ease. Second, how about our air conditioners? Sure they keep us nice and cool on those hot days but they are also a terrible power guzzler that can be traded in for a more resourceful evaporative cooler. Lastly, water heaters are one of the top three contributors to our high electrical bills but so few of us realize there are great do it yourself kits out there. These kits are made to teach us to generate our own solar water heaters that are not only competent of doing the exact same thing but can do it while keeping money in your pocket.
Saving electricity and learning how to be more efficient is the first level. Creating solar energy on your own is the next level. Solar cells are increasing in popularity and are becoming more proficient at a much lower price. In the past, creating your own solar energy would have been a multi thousand dollar job but today it can be achieved for a few hundred. Furthermore, some governments are now offering tax credits to those that are creating their own form of power.
Most people know Albert Einstein as one of the smartest men of all time but few know what earned him his Nobel Prize. Photo-electric effect is the reason Albert recieved his Prize which is also the basics of how solar enerergy is generated. Also refered to as the photo voltaic process, this is basically the process of converting the suns rays (including ultra violate radiation) into usable energy.
What this array will do is grab solar light and convert it to electricity, storing it for later use. Making dual purpose systems that are also solar thermal water heaters combines both solar energy and saving electricity, often in one installation. All that said, this is a scalable system. Start out small and build up the capacity as you get time, and buy the components. Most of the components are fairly inexpensive at this point.
Solar systems are not cheap but having said that they are also not as costly as people tend to think. The electrical bill for most American and Canadians is one of the top three bills that weigh heavily on our wallets. Why not invest in something that can eliminate those bills all together or at least significantly reduce the costs? Getting your own solar power system does not have to be done all in one day, you can always do it step by step until you have achieved your desired reduction in costs and this reduction can be seen in as little as a year!
There’s more to solar energy and learning how to save electricity than this ” this article is just the highlights, and the bare beginnings. Going into renewable energy offers a lot of benefits; generate enough of it, and you’ll be selling excess capacity back to your power company. Beyond this, you also get the satisfaction of knowing that you’re helping to mitigate our species footprint on the planet, keeping it in better shape for our children.
