The Teacup Poodle is very similar to the Toy and the Standard Poodle except for the size. Teacup Poodles weigh anywhere between two and four pounds where the next size Poodle, the Toy Poodle, is ten pounds at maturity. Teacup dogs get the name teacup because they can almost fit into a teacup. These dogs are intelligent, obedient and elegant dogs. They have a non-shedding fur, which makes them very popular. The Teacup Poodle makes a great family pet because it loves companionship. They are fun to dress up and most of their owners carry them in their purses or special pet carriers that are shoulder bags. In today’s world the celebrity elite are very prone to carrying their teacup Poodles with them wherever they go.

They were used as performers for entertainment purposes. The early years of royalty caught on to the craze of the performing Poodles and most had Poodles with them courtside. They soon became very pampered pets, a trait which has carried on today. But one must consider the Teacup Poodle’s size when choosing a Poodle for a family pet.

The Teacup Poodles grew in popularity in its early years because of their smaller size and, therefore, were cheaper to feed and easier to maintain. The Toy and the Teacup Poodle are the most popular of all of the Poodle varieties. The Teacup Poodles make a mannerly, yet lively, companion for every lifestyle. However, when choosing a Teacup Poodle for a family be sure to consider the delicateness of a four pound dog if there are young children in a home.

Teacup Poodles are tiny dogs and should be treated as such. They will not be able to jump up or down off of sofas or beds. They must be watched when on a high piece of furniture so they do not fall off. Because of their size and fragility they can easily break a leg from one of these falls.

Teacup Poodles are less than eight inches tall and weigh between two and four pounds fully grown. If a breeder should try and sell you anything larger, then he is trying to sell you a Toy Poodle. Any breeder who tries this should be reported to the AKC for misleading you on your Poodle style. Any breeder who tries to sell you a sick Teacup and tells that is a natural state for a Teacup Poodle should also be reported.

Teacup Poodles do use up their energy fast and will suffer from low sugar, but a quick fix with a small meal will remedy this situation. One must always remember this is a tiny dog and should be treated as such.
